PRESBYOPIA
What is presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a natural aging of the eye that occurs from age 40. This phenomenon is not a disease but a natural and universal evolution, unfortunately unavoidable.
The lens (the transparent lens inside the eye) gradually loses its elasticity, hardens, swells, and loses its ability to curve and accommodate. The vision of close objects is then impaired.
Like a poorly adjusted camera lens, the eye struggles more to adapt and achieve clear and sharp vision at a usual reading distance, especially when the light is insufficient. As a result, presbyopia can cause eye strain and even headaches.

Who is affected by presbyopia?
Everyone is affected by presbyopia or will be from age 40. Presbyopia progresses rapidly between its onset and up to age 60, which requires regular changes in the strength of corrective lenses (called diopters).
Presbyopia reaches its peak after age 65 and then stabilizes.
In numbers, presbyopia means:
- 22 million presbyopes in France
- 160 million presbyopes in Europe
- 1.7 billion presbyopes worldwide
- 700,000 new presbyopes every year
- 2.5 billion presbyopes worldwide
The number of presbyopic people is not expected to decrease given the constant aging of the population.
What solutions exist for presbyopia?
When vision becomes blurry and uncomfortable:
- It is important to see an ophthalmologist who will perform a complete eye exam. They will identify your vision problems and prescribe the correction you need.
- There are several types of correction: single-vision lenses (magnifiers), progressive lenses, bifocal lenses.
- It is recommended to replace your glasses when they are no longer as effective and perfectly suited to your vision.
- You can choose contact lenses or consider laser surgery.
- The simplest and by far the most practical solution remains wearing reading glasses. K-EYES offers a wide range of models and colors of reading glasses for presbyopes available on the e-shop.
